JANETTE SEBRING LOWREY, author of The Poky Little Puppy--the bestselling picture book of all time--wrote mostly teen fiction during the 1940s and 1950s.

KATHRYN JACKSON penned hundreds of lively, witty stories for Golden Books, including Tawny Scrawny Lion and Nurse Nancy. She wrote The Saggy Baggy Elephant with her husband, Byron.

Caldecott Medalists ALICE AND MARTIN PROVENSEN began to illustrate books together in the mid-1940s, many of them for Golden Books, including The Fuzzy Duckling and The Color Kittens.

Before Swedish émigré artist GUSTAF TENGGREN created several of Golden Books' most popular characters, he worked for the Walt Disney Studio, painting concept artwork for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Old Mill, Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Bambi.

J. P. MILLER worked alongside Tenggren at the Walt Disney Studio, and is largely credited for animating the characters Dopey, Geppetto, and Dumbo. He illustrated many Golden Books, including Little Bunny Follows His Nose and The Sweet Smell of Christmas.

Hungarian émigré artist TIBOR GERGELY, who brought to life the beloved characters Tootle and Scuffy the Tugboat, was one of Golden Books' most prolific illustrators.
